The Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg may be sold to companies from Kazakhstan, said Kirill Soloveichik, chairman of the committee for industrial policy, innovation and trade in St. Petersburg, Autonews.ru correspondent reports.
“Negotiations are underway with Kazakhstan on the Hyundai plant. At the same time, the General Motors site was never launched by colleagues from Hyundai, and we are now negotiating to use one of the buildings for training industrial workers,” Soloveichik added.
The Russian press service of Hyundai declined to comment on this information to Autonews.ru.
The Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus (HMMR) plant in Sestroretsk suspended its work on March 1, 2022 due to anti-Russian sanctions. At the same time, at the end of 2022, the enterprise once more began producing Solaris sedan bodies for export to the Hyundai Trans Kazakhstan site in the Kazakh city of Alma-Ata.
