Foods that will ward off drowsiness

The next day following a sleepless night tends to be unproductive. When income is compromised, energy must be drawn from somewhere. Many turn to coffee, teas or energy drinks. However, there are other options just as efficient.

Drinks with a high concentration of caffeine can keep you awake. However, high levels of the substance do not always contribute to attention and can cause headaches and tachycardia. See other food options to scare sleep:

1. Dark chocolate

“Dark chocolate makes us more active, improves our concentration and is rich in antioxidants. Because it has less sugar, it will give the body a boost of energy”, says nutritionist Talita Machado.

2. Chia

Chia seeds are fibrous, protein-rich foods that are rich in tyramine, an amino acid that helps stimulate the brain.

“It’s interesting to add it to breakfast, accompanied by French bread or tapioca, to also enjoy the energy provided by carbohydrates”, suggests Talita.

3. Avocado

Avocado is a very energetic food when it comes to caloric value – 100 grams of avocado, for example, contains 160 calories. Of this value, 14 grams correspond to fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Among the fruit’s vitamins is vitamin C, which helps transform avocado fat into energy.

4. Sweet potato

So, like chia, sweet potatoes help control blood sugar levels. It is a food rich in carbohydrates and fiber. “The ideal is to use it for breakfast accompanied by fruit or at lunch, along with proteins”, advises the nutritionist.

5. Orange

The body becomes inflamed following a bad night’s sleep. The vitamin C present in the orange fights inflammation, has an antioxidant effect and helps in the production of hormones, such as serotonin. The neurotransmitter is linked to well-being and regulation of heart rate.
