Dead Space – The best soups are made in old pots

The Xbox 360 generation gave birth to some very good titles. So might as well continue to make remakes?

Dead Space was originally released in 2008, during the PS360 generation (that means PS3/Xbox360 for the sleeping bottom two). And it was a damn good game that spawned two sequels, which I personally enjoyed a lot as well. About fifteen years later, EA gives us a Capcom with a remake of one of the big titles of its catalog on the consoles of the new generation. Yes, this new Dead Space does not run on Xbox One, you will have to upgrade and switch to Xbox Series X|S friends!

Isaac Clarke Kent

The story of Dead Space puts us in the shoes of Isaac Clarke, an ordinary engineer on a mission to repair the USG Ishimura, a gigantic mining vessel. Once on board, he makes a macabre discovery: the entire crew has been massacred and Nicole, his girlfriend, has disappeared into the depths of the ship. Alone to face this nightmare, with only his tools and his skills as an engineer, Isaac is more than ever determined to find Nicole. The mystery hovers around the events that took place aboard the Ishimura and Isaac intends to discover the truth regarding them. Trapped with hostile creatures called Necromorphs, Isaac must fight for his survival: not only once morest the growing threats of the ship but also to preserve his sanity in the face of the horrors he will live. In short, it’s a remake of the 2008 game. There are a few small changes, but overall, you won’t be out of place if you know the song.

You are ugly!

And on the other hand, it’s not embarrassing, because the Dead Space recipe is still as good as ever. The atmosphere on the Ishimura is heavy, stressful, it feels like an Alien movie at times. Our character is clearly a lambda guy who unfortunately finds himself in this shit, and who will, over the course of the adventure, take the lead and above all, improve his equipment. There is always this pleasure of cutting up the members of the Necromorphs with our weapon, in order to slow them down and then crush their faces with the soles of our space boots. The armor is still cool, the levels still dark, and the tension still palpable. In short, it’s a remake of the 2008 game… oh shit I’ve already said that sentence, I’m starting to remake my own texts.

So much memories !

Who says remake, says graphic overhaul. Well, we’re pretty spoiled with Dead Space. We are clearly in a title that is a pleasure to see. The lighting effects are very successful, the quality of the textures quite stunning, and the design of the enemies is still just as uncomfortable at times. There are passages where the title manages to surprise us even if we remain constantly on the alert, because we know that a monster will soon jump on the corner of our mouths. The atmosphere on the Ishimura is a real success, and we have the impression of taking the same slap as 15 years ago. So yes, this remake is well done. The soundtrack is also of high quality, whether in terms of music, sound effects or dubbing. The gameplay is good, of course we find the somewhat clumsy side of our character in armor, but that’s part of the delirium.

No arms, no chocolate

In conclusion, if you liked the game in 2008, you will like this remake of Dead Space. And if you’ve never done it before, this is clearly the time to get started. My only complaint is that I would have preferred a new episode rather than a revamp of the original game. But at least we avoided the simple 4K remaster, that’s not bad! And then, if ever it helps to relaunch the Dead Space saga, I sign directly!
