Arnaud De Lie and Fabio Jakobsen have long hoped that victory would be decided in the sprint this Sunday. But that was without counting on the very good resistance of Benoot, Mohoric, Van Hooydonck, Van der Hoorn and Wellens, who took advantage of the mountains to form the good breakaway of the day.
The five men then played in the last five kilometers, multiplying the attacks. And the one who hit the jackpot is Tiesj Benoot, who surprised Wellens and Mohoric with 700 meters to go. He ahead of Van Hooydonck, Mohoric, Van der Hoorn and Wellens in that order.
Christophe Laporte won the peloton sprint, for 6th place, ahead of Arnaud De Lie. The Jumbo-Visma triumph is therefore total.
