A French mayor tries to control the wild boar plague in her city in an unusual way: She forbids the animals to engage in leisure activities.
Corinne Grosset reacted to a wild boar plague on the Loire with a lot of humor: the mayor of Saint-Lambert-la-Poterie, a suburb of Angers, issued a decree according to which wild boars are not allowed to play football on the local sports field.
She embellished the ban accordingly, as article one states: “Boars are forbidden from entering the soccer field unless they are wearing cleated shoes.” Article two states: “Boars are not allowed to play a football game unless they have previously applied to the mayor’s office for a time slot.”
Last spring, gangs of wild boar devastated 3,000 square meters of play area. The repair cost 50,000 euros, the same amount was also due for the fencing of the site.
