Published in 2020 by Éditions du Basson, Christophe Kauffman’s novel “Old Skin” is now adapted for the theater by La Courte Echelle.
Young suburbanites break into an old lady’s home in the middle of the night to steal her money. They do not suspect how long and unpredictable the night will be because Paola is determined not to let it go.
The director Luc Jaminet fell in love with this dark and cynical tale set in one place and one night. For him, it’s one more artistic collaboration with the author he knows well.
The difficulty was to transpose the text to the stage while retaining its particular tone, a bit à la Audiard, mixed with Desproges while being very rhythmic.
To interpret what is also a clash of generations, each with their own language, he called on Graziella Cannata, made up as a surly and cantankerous old woman, as well as Lola Abiuso and Martin Moës, two young participants in the teen workshops at the Courte Ladder,.
With the acting of the actors, the costumes and sets, the music and a choreography, the story of Christophe Kauffman comes to life for the greatest pleasure of the author.
“Old Skin” will be performed at the Courte Echelle, in Liège, from March 3 to 12, and at the Cultural Center of Soumagne on March 22.
