The 21-year-old Parisian, revealed by his overwhelming performance in The high school student by Christophe Honoré, is in the running for the “best male hopeful” category of the Césars. See you on February 24!
In The high school student, you play Lucas, a teenager whose life is shattered. What do you remember from the shoot?
Paul Kircher : It is an immense gift that Christophe [Honoré] made me with this movie. It opened a window on me and it’s quite rare. Even if the character is different from who I am, I remember that following filming, I asked myself the question of what belonged to me and what was going to be left to me from all that…
You play there alongside Juliette Binoche.
When we started doing our first scenes together, she came with something very maternal. Between takes, she absolutely did not let go of the embrace that we had in the film. It’s surprising, but she took me into this family and it was beautiful. She shared many things with me, be it painters or her love for qi gong!
You are playing in Thomas Cailley’s next film, Le Règne animal.
It’s a fantastic film on a very realistic level. I was with Romain Duris and we spent three months in the South West for the shoot. Thomas ventured into the unknown for this film, with a heavy workload, but with a lot of simplicity. I can’t wait to see what it will look like.
Other roles to come?
Last year was special, I made these two films and I was not at all used to it. I had trouble projecting myself, so I wanted to take the time to rediscover this desire. I went to Iceland this winter and now I’m thinking regarding what I’m going to do.
Your relationship with fashion?
Right now, I’m discovering! I find designers who make very beautiful things and so I liked to be well dressed from time to time. I’m starting to like it all.
Your slap of the moment?
I saw the northern lights and that was a slap in the face. A crazy thing ! The cinema of the sky!
The cinema of the future?
Digital, I feel! In the way of promoting cinema. And maybe a little less of a cinephile… Cinema is used as a social tool. Even so, it will still allow legends to be created, because people need them.
