Paz School of Medicineby management of the Municipal Mayor, Dr. HC Mario Her and that it was inaugurated in September 2021, a free and open faculty, for everyone, with extensive amenities, a 33,000-square-meter mega-structure, lecture halls, laboratories, classrooms for more than one hundred students and located on Av. Arregui e / Marcelo T. de Alvear and Oribe.

Said work was built with municipal funds and by workers from the direction of the Municipal Construction Company, with skilled labor from La Paz. Thousands of students can study medicine for free at #JoséCPaz, this year for admission to all the careers that comprise the training offer of the National University of José C. Paz, among them, the new Medicine career in the first batch of entrants of its history has almost 2,470 subscribers. Young people and adults from all over the region can enter, just six blocks from the district railway station.

As part of the activities to launch the Medicine degree at UNPAZ, a discussion was held to discuss the scope and challenges of this new proposal for professional training in the regional health system.

The event was chaired by the rector Darío Kusinsky and was attended by the Minister of Health of the province of Buenos Aires, Nicolás Kreplak; the former rector of UNPAZ and professor of the Department of Legal and Social Sciences of the University, Federico Thearepresenting the Municipal Mayor, Mario Ishii, was the Secretary of Education, Science and Technology of José C. Paz, Prof. mario martinez; the vice chancellor Silvia Storino; the director of the Department of Health and Sports Sciences, Leonel Tesler; and the director of the Medicine career, Gabriela Lacarta.

The meeting was enriched with the participation of leaders in the field of health at the national, provincial and municipal levels.

At the opening of the conversation, the rector pointed out that Medicine “is an important career that once once more twists the history of the district as the University knew how to do and that once once more configures an agenda that presents us with many challenges from now on.” In this sense, the rector gave special recognition to the mayor of José C. Paz, Mario Alberto Ishii, who was the main promoter of the project to create UNPAZ and the Medicine degree.

“I want to tell you –added the rector- that we are concerned regarding all the dimensions of the offer. Not only teaching and content, the University also has other functions, especially research and transfer. The impact will not be given only by the generation of professionals but also by the dimension of the investigation”.

For his part, Federico Thea highlighted the importance of the regional impact of the launch of the race. “The territorial element of the origins must be supported, we have done it in the process of designing the degree, in thinking regarding the impact that a medicine degree would have in the territory. Now the moment of truth has arrived and I think it is a great challenge to hold that gaze”, reflected the former rector of UNPAZ.

Leonel Tesler referred to the focus of the curriculum of this new educational offer. “We want the University to have a defined role within the transformation of the health system that we all dream of and for which we are permanently working; we want to put our University at the service of the health system and at the service of building an integrated national system”, he remarked.

The Buenos Aires Minister of Health stressed that: “it is essential to think regarding the collective construction of the health team. One of the big problems we have is the work stress that is generated because the health worker deals individually with an abstract technical question, a problem that has thousands of contexts (economic, historical, social)”.

Referring to the title of the conversation, the Minister of Health explained that “the challenge is to generate a new culture in this regard, we have to have more workers who approach care from different places, we must be there, accompany, listen, this process that is totally countercultural in medicine is not in the career of José C. Paz”.

The conversation continued with presentations by the director of the Medicine degree, Gabriela Lacarta; and national, provincial and local references in the field of health such as Mario Róvere, among others.

The event was broadcast live and the full video is available on the University’s YouTube channel link: https://youtu.be/xdpFKCa5SGo .
