It is understood that Tanqian Elementary School established a class in Fu’an Palace during the Japanese occupation period. It has been 64 years since the school was founded in 1958. In its heyday, the school had more than 600 students.
However, in recent years, facing the impact of declining birth rate, there are only 4 new students in the new school year, and there are only 27 students in the school, and disadvantaged students account for more than half.
After Tanqian Elementary School was abolished on August 1 this year, the school was officially closed. Students may be forced to go to Ayutthaya Elementary School, which is 3 kilometers away, and it takes regarding 5 to 10 minutes to ride a motorcycle or drive.
Regarding the future preservation and abolition of the school, the school has also conducted a visit to the parents. The village head, Ke Zhixian, hopes that the county government will step on the brakes, give students a complete learning and education space, and prevent the villagers of Tanqian from becoming second-class citizens.
The county government will also convene local people and civilian representatives to discuss the preservation and disposal of the school this evening, and explain how it will become a study tour center in the future.
Tanqian Elementary School has performed well in drama for more than 10 years, and has represented Changhua County in national competitions every year and won the “Special Excellence” award.
