Tramontina makes investments to grow in electrical materials
New structure of the CIPeD (Innovation, Research and Development Center) to recreate the tests carried out by the certification bodies accredited by Inmetro, expanding the innovation and research capacity of Tramontina’s electrical materials factory
Tramontina has just inaugurated the CIPeD (Innovation, Research and Development Center) building, built exclusively to meet the demands of the electrical materials factory. Located in Carlos Barbosa, in Rio Grande do Sul, the site brings together 7 modern laboratories, occupying a constructed area of 2,000 m².
47 years of tradition in electrical materials
Tramontina’s electrical materials unit has 47 years of experience in the production and sale of solutions that serve different segments, including sockets, plates, switches, circuit breakers, conduits and lighting products aimed at the residential, commercial and industrial public.
With the new structure, the company expands its capacity for innovation and the standard of quality, reliability and precision of products intended for electrical installations, according to market needs. “The technology embedded in CIPeD favors process control and analysis of product compliance with the main manufacturing, performance and safety standards required in Brazil and abroad, as well as research and development of new items, driving growth of the company”, comments André de Lima, Executive Director of Tramontina’s electrical materials factory.
Structure recreates tests made at Inmetro
To meet growing demand, Tramontina invested in new technologies and in training its human resources to improve compliance analysis in its 7 test laboratories installed in the new CIPeD building: metrology and instrumentation; metallic materials; polymeric materials; lighting technician; plugs, sockets and switches; electros; and products for protection and control.
Among the acquisitions are a second CNC three-dimensional measuring machine, with a processing capacity superior to the model in operation at the company, and a non-contact optical measuring machine, which favors the perfection of the dimensioning of the raw materials used in the products. Another novelty is the saline mist equipment, which allows corrosion testing on metallic raw materials and verification of compliance with the required standards and specifications.
With the investments, Tramontina’s CIPeD, in addition to carrying out routine tests to ensure the quality of all the batches produced, is able to recreate the tests carried out in certification laboratories accredited by Inmetro (National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology). “We carry out preliminary tests, which show us the results of the products, even before they are submitted to certification tests by accredited bodies. Our laboratories are also ready to verify the effectiveness of project changes, maintaining the reliability of products that evolve according to market needs”, explains Tramontina’s director.
The class IV and V TG conduit line, presented to the market at the end of the second half of 2022, is among the solutions developed from the tests carried out with the new equipment available at CIPeD. “With the launch of this line, we entered important markets, such as metro-rail, transport and urban mobility, infrastructure, energy distribution, industrial, commercial, etc. and people’s safety”, concludes Lima.
