It was only a matter of time before Yasmina Reza’s novel Serge (2022) also appears at the theater. Theater’s love of novels is well known, and on the other hand, there’s a best-selling author who’s gotten her comedy spin down. An ARD radio play version already exists, and the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus will celebrate its premiere in March. Only the Burgtheater was faster, which has been able to wave the world premiere of its own stage version since Thursday. The applause was benevolent, but the staging was not successful.
