The Museumsquartier (MQ) will be wrapped in a light installation to mark the anniversary of the outbreak of war. Various artistic contributions are intended to show what the war means for those affected.
VIENNA. On February 24, 2021, one of the darkest chapters in the history of Ukraine began for Ukraine. It was the day when Russia launched an attack on the neighboring country. Many have experienced the Russian occupation of their cities, many have lost family members and acquaintances, many have fled.
On the occasion of the anniversary, Museum Quarter (MQ) various art installations and exhibitions in cooperation with “Office Ukraine” to show what all this means for those affected. What do people experience when fleeing? How do you experience your first time in a foreign country? And how can newcomers and Austrians live together successfully once morest the background of such different life situations?
The facade as a canvas
For example, the play “365 Days” will be performed. It is a project by the Burgtheaterstudios as part of the Junge Akademie 22/23 and brought together eleven performers, all of whom currently live in Vienna and some come from the Ukraine. The theater project deals with the events of the last 356 days in Ukraine. Afterwards there will be a discussion with the participants of the play.
Another item on the program is the presentation of the videos “15.02.22- 24.02.22 KYIV” by the young artist Alisa Sizykh and “Guide Map” by Alina Maksimenko, who managed to escape from Irpin two weeks following the start of the war. On the run, she documented her experiences in a video diary.
But the outer facade of the Museumsquartier will also become a canvas. From February 24, the video projection “365 Days of full-scale War in Ukraine – Visual Diary” with works by Ukrainian artists will be shown for three days.
