Neuroscientist Sonia Lupien questions the “extraordinary” data that has come out recently regarding anxiety in young people. By publishing with 12 colleagues in La Presse the letter “Anxiety of young people: let’s stop scaring the public”, the scientists want to “inform the public of the various biases that can have an impact on the results obtained and on their interpretation”.

Sonia Lupien explains that young people are actually increasingly terrified… of being stressed and anxious.

« Young people are afraid of stress and anxiety because since they were very young they have been told that stress and anxiety are very dangerous, negative and toxic states. »

Sonia Lupien therefore lists the beneficial effects of stress by following five rules, and explains how stress and anxiety can be used as a weapon.

« Stress is cool. It is the weapon that allows us to fight the threats of life. »
