Polar stall: it could snow at the beginning of next week as far as the plains in the Mediterranean

The weather is changing and with the return of humidity, the mild weather should give way to cold over the weekend. A drop in temperatures which should strengthen at the beginning of the week, until suggesting possible snowfall, until the plain on Monday or Tuesday.

The deadline is still a bit distant, but a snowy scenario is indeed emerging for the start of next week. It will still need to be refined, but according to the first forecasts, the weather should change over the weekend and the cold will return, with temperatures that might be lower than normal for the season.

In the plain, it might even give rise to snowfall. Météo Languedoc even goes so far as to mention the “highest snow potential since February 28, 2018”the date on which snow had fallen massively for the last time in Montpellier, Béziers, Nîmes, causing the placement of Hérault in red vigilance by Météo France…

“Significant Probabilities”

In his predictions, Weather Languedoc explains that this weekend, “a polar stall will take place between Scandinavia and Europe. The cold and continental air will be at the gates of France on Sunday, then might invade our country on Monday, with a risk of snow to the plains near the Mediterranean”. Forecasters insist on the conditional, because the situation can still change.

There remains only the ensemble model, which averages the weather scenarios “gives a significant chance of snowfall for Monday, February 27.”

On his side Meteo France also anticipates a drop in temperatures from this weekend. “The decline is expected to be clearer at the start of next week, with a drop below normal for the season expected.

In its one-week forecast, we see on Tuesday morning possible rather generalized snow showers over Occitania, even if at this stage, the confidence index is established at 2/5 by the meteorological service.

Thanks to wet weather once more, the snow, sorely lacking in the mountains, is starting to fall once more this Thursday, February 23. This is the case in the Pyrenees, where according to the massifs, it had not fallen for 2 to 4 weeks.
