The median salary of a Belgian is 3,550 euros. But you might earn more… by choosing one of the highest paying professions.
What are the jobs with the highest salaries?
Without making an average a generality, the study conducted by Statbel* offers us a more transparent view of salaries in Belgium. Among the best paid positions, we find at the top of the list the DGs. Managing directors currently have an average gross salary of 10,717 euros. That is 200% more than the national average. On the 2th place of the podium: managers in information technology and communications with 7,997 euros per month. And in 3th position ? Administrative services managers, who earn €7,800 (double your neighbor’s).
To justify this size difference, Statbel specifies that “the profession seems to influence the salary to a large extent. Taking on great responsibilities or carrying out a complex function often results in a higher salary”.

A changing salary
However, the remuneration also depends on the sector of activity. Working in the petrochemical industry or in finance will be more lucrative than performing the same function in the media or insurance, for example. Finally and because everything comes at the right time to who knows how to wait: we see that the salary increases with age. AT 40 years, employees generally receive a salary higher than the average. But… NO: that’s not a good reason to lie regarding your age!
