According to the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), there are five prominent areas in Brazil that need to be worked on with a view to reindustrialization, in facing the financial crisis. The first concerns the Digital Transformation Industry, which, according to CNI, in an interview published by the Época Negócios portal, “is an area in which we must invest a lot in 2023 to become more competitive in the global market.”
The second area refers to renewable energies. According to the directorate of technology and innovation at CNI, “all studies by large consultancies say that Brazil is the best placed country for the production of renewable energies.” The third, and most promising, is biotechnology. After all, in a country of continental dimensions, six biomes and an ocean with multiple possibilities, the chances of leadership for the biotechnology industry are real.
The last two comprise health and the circular economy. Regarding the first, the board considers that “there are few countries that manage to have a unified health system, Brazil is in a privileged position to advance in the sector.” As for the second, it’s remarkable how much people have considered creating a world for themselves 100 years from now. In this sense, the circular economy evaluates ways to produce resources without depleting natural reserves, which is a very beneficial strategy for Brazil (and for the world).
Reindustrialization effort aims at resuming the sector
Geraldo Alckmin, vice-president of Brazil, assumed the position of Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, defending the reindustrialization of the country, returning to being a power in the sector. To help, the CNI prepared a recovery plan for the first 100 days of government.
The recovery plan includes proposals such as: continuing Brazil’s accession process to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD); implement an industrial policy for the country; accelerate the country’s international integration; stimulate innovation; recreate the export financing and guarantee system and reduce the Brazil cost.
Investing in infrastructure is essential
For all of this to be put into practice, it is necessary to invest in infrastructure for the industry, covering basic aspects for the full operation of the most diverse segments, from industrial painting to the incorporation of technologies associated with Industry 4.0 and automation. Still according to the CNI, “it is necessary to understand that, for any of these areas, it is essential to have an infrastructure provided by the State. […] There is no point in investing in renewable energies if there are no places to store hydrogen, or boats that transport this energy, for example. So, infrastructure is part of any industry development goal in the country”.
