The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia and the governor of the Kuban inspected the site of an avalanche in the mountains of Sochi

Alexander Kurenkov and Veniamin Kondratiev visited the area of the bobsleigh track in Krasnaya Polyana. Oleg Volynkin, Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory, and Aleksey Kopaygorodsky, Mayor of the resort, took part in the event.

– The diversity of the relief and climatic features of the region cause a large number of natural risks. Taking into account the popularity of the resorts of the Kuban, the regional system of the RSChS should ensure the comprehensive security of the region. This is a collaborative and systematic work. Without fail, employees and representatives of tourist facilities should be involved in it, – said Alexander Kurenkov.

Veniamin Kondratiev stressed that a round-the-clock operational headquarters was immediately deployed on the spot to coordinate the actions of the services.

– Operational services immediately began clearing snow and emergency recovery work, as utility networks were damaged. They tried to eliminate the consequences of the avalanche as soon as possible. Now we can say with confidence that there are no obstacles to visiting our resort, all the infrastructure is working, – said Veniamin Kondratiev.

The Mayor of Sochi reported that at the time of the emergency, there was no water and gas in six streets, as well as in the area of the bobsleigh complex. There were more than 2000 tourists in the hotels of the resort at the level of 1100 meters.

– We promptly offered the guests relocation or compensation, but no one wanted to interrupt their vacation. A hotline has been opened. Comfortable temperatures in the rooms were maintained by electricity. Gas supply to facilities under a temporary scheme was fully restored last night. All the needs of hotel guests are provided, – said Alexey Kopaygorodsky.

The avalanche in the Sochi mountain cluster came down on February 20 at an altitude of 1170 meters above sea level. The flow of snow damaged the line of the medium pressure gas pipeline and two water pipes. No guests or residents were injured. An operational headquarters was deployed on the spot, the brigades of Vodokanal, Gorgaz, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the city and district administrations worked.
