The OCOG wants to be reassuring in the face of criticism of ticketing – Sport & Société – Kévin Bernardi

Faced with comments targeting both the proposed pricing and the unavailability of certain sports or disciplines due to the success of the first ticketing phase launched on February 15, the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Games (OCOG) held to recall the fundamentals of its strategy in terms of marketing access tickets to the competitions that will take place next year.

EInitiated since February 15, 2023 and – theoretically until March 15 – the first phase of ticketing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has been a great success, which is causing joy and frustration.

In fact, less than a week following the launch of said phase and within the framework of the offer proposed by the latter, namely the sale of packs custom madeclimbing (Le Bourget, Seine-Saint-Denis), fencing (Grand Palais, Paris 8th), judo (Aréna Champ-de-Mars, Paris 7th), breakdance, skateboarding, BMX freestyle (Place de la Concorde, 8th), but also BMX racing (Vélodrome de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines) are already sold out, even though the draw for future spectators has not yet been completed.

Also, the COJO published this Tuesday, February 21 a press release in which it recalls that these sports and disciplines will be available once more, but this time, as part of the sale of single tickets.

For this next stage of the 2024 Olympic Games ticketing, the registration phase for the draw will take place from March 15 to April 20, 2023before the activation of the single ticket sales phase from May 11.

In addition to all the sports on the program of the Olympic Games, this phase will also include tickets for access to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, as well as tickets for the final phases of the most anticipated events of the Olympic fortnight. , like the 100 meters final in athletics.

Beyond this logistical problem, Paris 2024 also wanted to be reassuring regarding the pricing of the events, at a time when several comments hinted at the prospect of the Games in opposition to the promise of a popular celebration accessible to the greatest number.

Thus, the OCOG recalls that of the 10 million tickets dedicated to the Olympic Games (July 26 to August 11, 2024), one million is offered at an entry price of 24 euros for the various sports on the program, except for surfing which will take place in French Polynesia and which is not subject to ticketing.

For the rest, and taking into account that almost half of the tickets intended for the general public are offered at a price of 50 euros or lessParis 2024 specifies that regarding fifteen sports and disciplines remain at this stage available at this pricing, citing in particular the women’s rugby 7s final at the Stade de France (Seine-Saint-Denis)cross-country in equestrian sports in Versailles (Yvelines)or even a night session basketball preliminary tournament at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium (North).

Anxious to maintain the strong interest expressed to date for its ticket office, which accounts for more than two-thirds of French buyers, the OCOG goes even further by indicating that tickets remain accessible for athletics events, or for handball, tennis, volleyball, golf or table tennis tournaments.
