Here is the first solar and bidirectional charger for electric car

An American company is launching a solar electric vehicle charging station. It produces energy to power a car, as well as a house or an electrical network.

The Californian company, Intelligent is launching an electric vehicle charger that combines a maximum of virtuous technologies in terms of ecology and performance. This magic bollard draws its energy from solar panels. They might deliver up to 25 kW of charge, in direct current, three times faster than a conventional charger. To achieve this, instead of having to convert alternating current (AC) from the mains into direct current (DC) to charge the electric vehicle, the charging station remains in direct current.

The conversion is only used to obtain a higher power output. This avoids the loss of energy from this AC to DC conversion. The economy of this would be 13% according to the manufacturer. An economy which therefore makes it possible to gain in charging speed and power.

Less losses, more power

The terminal is also bi-directional with what is known as V2H and V2G capability. In other words, it can supply the network if necessary or help to make a house a little more autonomous from an energy point of view. When the energy is sufficient in the electric vehicle, it is on the other hand the car which transfers energy to the house via this terminal. This compilation of technologies would be a first in the world.

As always, this power of 25 kW remains to be qualified, because we do not really know if the solar panel can supply enough kWh to be able to deliver it at the desired time.
