“The change in school rhythm should not impact homework”: two weeks of vacation but no more homework for children

For the first time, children are entitled to two weeks of holidays for carnival. But there is no question of doubling the number of homework assignments. The instructions of the Wallonia Brussels Federation remain the same concerning the work to be done at home during the holidays. They are also fixed by decree. “The change in school rhythm should in principle not impact homework“, explains Géraldine Kamps, spokesperson for Wallonie-Bruxelles Enseignement.Nothing prohibits giving homework and lessons that would have a formative value.

On the other hand, it is forbidden to give work that would have a summative value. “And so who might count in the ratings“, specifies the spokesperson.Teachers cannot organize summative examinations during the 5 school working days following the end of the relaxation leave.
