The perineum: an essential but little-known role

The perineum is a set of muscles located between the external genitalia and the anus. Also called the pelvic floor, the role of the perineum is to help close the urethra and the anus, but also to support all the pelvic organs. However, when it loses tone, it can cause multiple dysfunctions ranging from urinary incontinence, to uro-genital and anal prolapse, including reduced desire.
