The statements by Aníbal Tortoriello at the end of last year when the prosecutor’s office surprisingly changed the cover in the Techo Digno case and forced the hearing to be postponed take on another flavor and They put more condiments in the run-up to the provincial elections. It is that the Judicial Office rescheduled the debate for April 3, less than two weeks before the date chosen by the ruling party for the provincial elections.
The businessman and ex-intendende of Cipolletti is the main opponent of Senator Alberto Weretilneck who is seeking his third term in Río Negro.
“There is political speculation in the Techo Digno cause, he is armed,” Tortoriello told RIO NEGRO on December 7, days following the failed hearing for the mega-cause that affected several mayors, officials and businessman in the period between 2011 and 2015.
The businessman is cited together with Abel Baratti, former community chief – 2011 and 2015- for managing funds for the construction of some 600 social housing. The prosecution’s theory is that se funds were embezzled and they were also stolen.
Tortoriello explained several times how the procedure was, he even said that Baratti did not embezzle funds either and that it will be what he will explain in court. “I think there is total political speculation. They are trying to use this cause to discredit me,” he said.
The hearing was on December 1. In that debate one of his defenders, Sebastián Perazzolli, raised a request for an extension for 60 days to guarantee the right of defense. He raised responded to the change in legal qualification that he made the chief prosecutor Santiago Márquez Gauna, without previously notifying the parties.
In this way, the cause once more suffers a delay that already accumulates years. It even delayed two in the federal jurisdiction that declared itself incompetent in the resolution and transferred the minutes to the prison in 2017. Last August, the judge had already granted an extension of the same characteristics at the request of Tortoriello’s defense to study the case.
On April 3, the accusation of Cipolletti’s Public Prosecutor’s Office will be known precisely. Also involved is the former civil servant and accountant Lucila Chiocconi and the builders Arturo Mendiberri, Domingo Mocciola and Daniel Zoppi. This case is part of a judicial process for fraudulent administration in the construction of houses.
In the case of Baratti (2011-2015) and Tortoriello (2015-2019) from Cipol They must explain how the administrative and accounting management of the construction of more than 600 social housing was in the city.
