Microsoft is preparing to launch a new version of Microsoft Teams in March, built from the ground up. This should significantly improve the use of system resources on PCs and laptops. This is reported by the US technology portal The Verge on Monday.
The software giant recently started testing the new Teams client across Microsoft and plans to release a preview for Microsoft Teams users in March. so The Verge with reference to sources familiar with Microsoft’s plans.
Accordingly, Microsoft has been working on this new teams client for years. The app is said to use 50 percent less storage space, put less strain on the CPU and improve battery life on laptops.
Teams should be faster
According to The Verge, this new app will transition Teams from Electron to Microsoft’s Edge Webview2 technology. Microsoft is also relying on React, a JavaScript library that will offer further UI improvements for teams in the coming months.
The improvements should result in Teams opening up or responding faster when presenting in a meeting or replying to messages. The new Teams app should address many of the criticisms and complaints regarding Teams performance, especially on older laptops. Accordingly, Microsoft plans to provide Teams users with a preview of the new app at the end of March, which will include a switch to switch back to the existing app if necessary.
In January, Microsoft made its premium extension for teams available as a preview. Users will have to pay extra for many functions in the future.
