Cooperation with Ambarella of the US in the field of 5nm… Production of the latest SoC for use in ADAS
Realization of high-performance and low-power semiconductors with dedicated IP, the latest process and packaging
“Expanding the automotive process to 4nm… Strengthening foundry process technology leadership”
Samsung Electronics announced on the 21st that it will produce semiconductors for self-driving vehicles of Ambarella, a US AI semiconductor company, through a 5-nano (nm) foundry process.
The semiconductor produced by Samsung Electronics this time is Ambarella’s latest system-on-chip (SoC) ‘CV3-AD685’, which is used in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The CV3-AD685 is equipped with Ambarella’s next-generation artificial intelligence engine (CVflow), and acts as the brain of an autonomous vehicle by self-determining and controlling driving situations input through cameras and radars.
Samsung Electronics produces high-performance and low-power semiconductors for self-driving vehicles by integrating automotive-specific IP, the latest process, and packaging technology and know-how in a state-of-the-art 5-nano process. Ambarella’s CV3-AD685 has improved artificial intelligence performance more than 20 times compared to its predecessor by utilizing Samsung Electronics’ advanced 5-nano process.
“We are delighted to be able to produce Ambarella’s latest work, the CV3-AD685 SoC, in a state-of-the-art 5nm process through close collaboration with Samsung Electronics,” said Fermi Wang, CEO and President of Ambarella. It is now possible to realize the high level of artificial intelligence performance and power efficiency required for driver assistance systems and ‘Level 2+’ to ‘Level 4’ implementation.”
“Samsung Electronics’ cutting-edge 5-nano process brings unprecedented performance improvements to self-driving vehicles,” said Shim Sang-pil, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ foundry division. said.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics plans to strengthen its technological leadership in the foundry process by expanding the latest 4-nm process to automotive and continue to expand new customers in the field of self-driving vehicles. plan to increase.
