There are also two German clinics in the top 20.

Digitization does not stop at the healthcare system. The use of modern technologies makes it possible to “fundamentally redefine care within the healthcare system,” writes the US magazine Newsweekthe one List of the “smartest” hospitals in the world created. Smart clinics are characterized, among other things, by the fact that they use state-of-the-art technologies – such as artificial intelligence (AI) in decision-making, digital imaging technologies or robotics – in order to make hospital operations not only more efficient, but also achieve better treatment outcomes.

US clinics clearly dominate

The smartest clinic in the world is the “Mayo Clinic” in Rochester, New York, which stands out from the competition primarily through the intensive use of AI and robotics. The second place goes to “Massachusetts General Hospital” in Boston (USA), followed by “The Johns Hopkins Hospital” in Baltimore (USA).

In general, most of the top positions are occupied by American hospitals. Only the “Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset” manages to break through the US hegemony. The Swedish clinic is the only non-American in the top 10. At least two German facilities made it into the top 20. Berlin’s “Charité” ranks eleventh as the second best European hospital, while the “University Hospital Essen” comes in 20th place.
