Woman rescued the unconscious from the ice-cold Salzach

In Bischofshofen in Salzburg’s Pongau on Monday followingnoon, a 49-year-old pedestrian fell into the Salzach, which is currently four to five degrees Celsius cold, and was aborted around 150 meters. A 32-year-old passer-by, who saw the local man floating in the river, did not hesitate and jumped into the water. She was able to grab the already unconscious man 15 meters from shore and pull him onto shore.

At this time the casualty had neither a pulse nor breathing. A police officer alerted by witnesses immediately began resuscitation measures, which were continued shortly followingwards by Red Cross paramedics. In fact, following a long time – according to initial information it was up to 45 minutes – the man was able to be resuscitated and taken to the hospital following he had been stabilized. According to the police, the accident happened when the 49-year-old had briefly left the Salzach stairway to go under the railway bridge there.
