Return of El Niño at the end of 2023 could set temperature records – Climate

Its name is harmless and derived from the Christ child: El Niño usually occurs around Christmas time and causes high water temperatures and no schools of fish off the coast of Peru. That’s why it was Peruvian fishermen who gave this phenomenon its name.
