Windows Update on Windows 11 displays error messages when trying to install driver updates, here’s what is known regarding this error.
Microsoft has rolled out its monthly update, Patch Tuesday, to systems running Windows 11 for February. But since it was made available, many users have become victims of a Windows Update bug. The service offers a number of drivers to update, but when you try to download and install them on your device, an error message appears. Restarting the procedure or restarting the computer is not enough to solve the problem.
Microsoft forums are awash with messages attesting to this error, which seems to affect all types of devices and all brands. Even the Surface range laptops and tablets, developed by Microsoft, are subject to this problem. The error reported by Windows 11 is 0x80070103, which Microsoft described as an update error. This usually happens when you try to install a driver that is already installed or an earlier version than that installed on your computer, Redmond says.

This is rather good news because it means that users are not prevented from taking advantage of the latest versions of their drivers via Windows Update: the latter in fact mistakenly offers versions of drivers that we don’t need. If you’re affected by the bug, just ignore it, you’re probably already enjoying the best drivers available for your system (supported by Windows Update, anyway).

However, all of these driver installation suggestions and the following error messages can disrupt the user’s experience with Windows Update. Microsoft is aware of the situation and is working to fix it. In the meantime, Intel recommends running the Windows Update troubleshooter in Windows 11 system settings to try to resolve the error, but success is not guaranteed.
