Islamabad: It is reported that Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan may be arrested today. Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was investigating allegations of irregularities in receiving money from abroad for his own party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI). Local media reports that the FIA has formed a four-member team for the arrest and has sought final approval from the Director General.
FIA had registered a case once morest Imran Khan and ten others for financial irregularities and started investigation. The investigation is being conducted by the Corporate Banking Circle of the FIA. According to the chargesheet, Imran and ten others violated the Foreign Exchange Act and all of them were beneficiaries of a private bank account.
PTI founder Akbar S. Babar was the first to file a complaint in this regard in 2014. But the party maintains that it has not done anything wrong. In 2018, a Scrutiny Committee was appointed to look into the finances of the party. This committee gave its report in January 2022 following holding 95 hearings over four years. The report given by this committee is that many times huge amount of money was collected from abroad without proper documents.
