PSG: Neymar’s injury history at a glance

Superstar Neymar from PSG was injured in the game once morest OSC Lille and had to be carried off in tears – now he may be missing in the Champions League second leg once morest FC Bayern. It’s another chapter in his bulging medical record. SPOX shows you his complete injury history.

In the 4-3 win once morest Lille, Neymar first scored himself before being injured in the 51st minute. He injured his ankle – the same ankle that caused problems at the World Cup in Qatar.

The Brazilian feels injured every three weeks. A look at the statistics is almost surprising: In the current season, the 31-year-old got off almost unscathed at PSG – until now. But there were also years when the plague followed him almost everywhere.

January 2014: ankle injury

Neymar suffered his first “serious” injury in January 2014. An ankle injury kept him out of action for a month. He missed a total of ten games for FC Barcelona.

April 2014: foot injury

Again in April 2014, Neymar was out for almost a month. This time he has to pause due to a foot injury. He cannot play four games during this time.

July 2014: vertebral fracture

At the 2014 World Cup on home soil, Neymar is hospitalized following a foul in the quarterfinals by Colombia’s Zuniga. Neymar suffers a fractured vertebra and will be out for the rest of the World Cup. Zuniga doesn’t even get a yellow card.

The then ARD-Expert Mehmet Scholl bursts the collar because referee Carlos Velasco Carballo Zuniga shows no card. The Colombians fouled Neymar a lot in that game. Without Neymar once morest Germany – the rest is history.

December 2015: adductor injury

After short breaks, Neymar missed five games in December 2015 with an adductor injury. A torn muscle fiber did not heal as intended.

January 2018: thigh problems

What follows is perhaps the Brazilian’s best period in terms of health. Minor ailments here and there, but between January 2016 and January 2018 he missed a total of just five games injured or injured.

In January 2018, in the dress of his new club Paris Saint-Germain, the 222-million-euro man was hit on the thigh. He has to sit out three games.

February 2018: Metatarsal fracture

A month later, Neymar’s season is over. In the league game once morest Olympique Marseille he breaks his metatarsus. Without the Brazilian, PSG will face Real Madrid in the round of 16 in the premier class.

In total, Neymar has to rest 90 days and misses 16 PSG games. He’s fit once more for the World Cup, but it’s not enough for a title. The Selecao are eliminated in the quarterfinals once morest Belgium.

November 2018: Adductor problems

PSG coach Thomas Tuchel will have to do without Neymar at the end of November until the turn of the year. Again it pinches in the adductor area. So he’s out for five games.

January 2019: Metatarsal fracture

The midfoot once more. In the cup once morest Strasbourg, Neymar injured his metatarsus like in 2018 and will be out for 85 days until mid-April. He is therefore not available to PSG for 18 games.

June 2019: Torn ligaments in the ankle

Then in the summer the next torn ligament. Neymar will “neither be fit nor recovered in time to take part in the Copa America,” the Brazilian FA said.

He picked up the injury in a friendly once morest Qatar and will only make his comeback for PSG on September 14. The French champions have to do without the superstar for a total of five games.

October 2019: Knee stretch

Just a month later, Neymar suffered a hamstring injury in Brazil’s friendly once morest Nigeria and will be out for five weeks.

February 2020: bruised ribs

Then it goes uphill once more: Neymar remains unharmed until the end of the 2019/20 season. Only a bruised rib makes him miss four PSG games in February.

September 2020: Corona

In September 2020, Neymar will be the next of many footballers with Corona. PSG will be without the Brazilian for nine days. Previously, he had stayed for six months with no problems.

October 2020: Adductor problems

Once once more, Neymar is struggling with the adductors. Shortly before the 2020 winter break, he is missing four games.

December 2020: ankle

After Neymar received a blow to the ankle in the league game once morest Lyon in December, then-coach Thomas Tuchel was very concerned. The sensitive ankle forces the attacker to take a month off.

February 2021: Adductor problems

“It’s sad and I don’t know how much more I can take,” said Neymar in February 2021. His adductors are having problems once more and he’s been out for over a month. As a result, he criticizes those who accuse him of acting.

August 2021: Training backlog

After the Copa America, Neymar will need a while before he’s an option once more. No risk should be taken. He only makes his debut on the 4th matchday. He’ll only miss one game before his next horrific accident (thigh problems).

November 2021: ankle injury

Neymar got it once more: in a duel once morest Macon (St. Etienne), he twisted his ankle violently. PSG initially assumes a break of six to eight weeks, in the end he will be missing until mid-February and will miss a total of 13 games.

November 2022: ankle injury

Neymar then got through the second half of the season well and became PSG’s best player at the start of the 2022/23 season. It caught him – of all things – once more at the World Cup in Qatar. After a foul by Nikola Milenkovic he injured his right ankle in the game once morest Serbia and burst into tears.

He misses the two remaining preliminary round games, but is back in the round of 16 once morest South Korea.

He is available once more for PSG following the World Cup break, even if he paused two league games as a precaution in early February.

Conclusion

Again and once more injuries to the ankle or ankle cause long downtimes, partly due to fouls, but not only. Possibly Neymar has also become more vulnerable in this regard due to his two metatarsal fractures. The adductors were a second problem area for a long time, but the last longer absence here was two years ago.
