[인포스탁데일리=원주호 기자] It is known that the government has begun analyzing the mobile phone charge system of three mobile telecommunication companies, SK Telecom, KT, and LG U+.
It is said that an investigation into price fixing by mobile operators was also included.
The Fair Trade Commission plans to place an order for a research service to analyze the mobile phone handset distribution market next month at the earliest.
This is a follow-up to President Yoon Seok-yeol’s recent order to “keep all means open and come up with special measures to eliminate oligopoly in the telecommunications market and promote competition.”
The Fair Trade Commission preemptively conducts market analysis every year to improve the monopolistic market structure.
Since last year, we have been analyzing the affordable phone market.
We have monitored whether the three large telecommunications companies unfairly discriminate once morest non-subsidiaries.
In particular, there is a growing possibility that the Fair Trade Commission will investigate collusion with the three telecommunications companies.
It is because of the perception that the telecommunications tariff system is in fact the result of collusion, and that the public suffers damage as a result.
A government official said, “We are considering looking at the overall rate system in the process of analyzing the handset distribution market.”
Meanwhile, the Fair Trade Commission plans to review the charges of falsely exaggerating the 5G speed of 20 times faster than LTE by the three telecommunications companies sooner or later.
