The Ministry of the Interior reports that, last year, 1,073,522 driving licenses were issued (compared to 958,985 in 2021), of which 317,292 licenses were issued as a result of passing the exam required by law (approximately 30% more than of 2021).

More than 3 million number plates were also issued.
In 2022, over 9.9 million vehicles were registered, registering an increase in the national car fleet by almost 3 percent compared to the beginning of the year.
Also, 396,879 imported used vehicles were registered in Romania last year, approximately 16 percent less than in 2021.
The police officers of the General Directorate of Driving Licenses and Registrations issued, last year, over 1.4 million registration certificates (82,256 fewer than in 2021, representing a decrease of 5.30%) and approximately 464,000 provisional driving permits, registering thus a decrease of 21.37% compared to 2021.
Starting from June 27, 2022, “green numbers” were introduced in Romania for vehicles with zero CO2 emissions. The purpose of the legislative amendment was to ensure the visibility of these categories of vehicles in road traffic, in order to stimulate the market introduction of non-polluting transport vehicles.
Thus, in Romania, in 2022, 6,116 green plates were issued for vehicles with zero CO2 emissions.
Over 23,000 electric vehicles and almost 120,000 hybrid vehicles are registered in our country.
