Explosive attacks took place in the Antwerp districts of Berchem and Wilrijk overnight from Saturday to Sunday, local police confirmed on Sunday. Damage is limited. The investigation must determine if the two incidents are linked to each other and if there is a link with the numerous violence between drug traffickers which takes place in Antwerp.
In Wilrijk, unknown persons targeted a house on the Krijgslaan. In Berchem, a dwelling in the Fruithoflaan was targeted. The damage is ultimately limited, there would only be glass breakage.
The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (SEDEE) is to come to the scene to determine what explosives have been used. The first elements point to a small-scale artisanal manufacture.
The two addresses are regarding a 10-minute drive apart, and there are similarities in the method used. It is therefore not excluded that the two attacks are the work of the same group or the same person.
