Agustín Rossi: It is rare that the President goes to the Paso

In the midst of the demand of the hard Kirchnerism for President Alberto Fernández to desist from going for his re-election, the brand new Chief of Staff, Agustín Rossi, gave part of the reason to the leaders who respond to Cristina Kirchner. “It is rare for the President to submit to the Paso,” the official admitted.

“It is clear that it is rare that a President who has the power to be re-elected goes for re-election and has to transfer or submit to a Step within his own political space,” Rossi explained, marking some nuances with the Cristinistas.

For the Chief of Staff, the “weird” has to do with the fact that naturally a President of the Nation should have the support of his space, as happened with Mauricio Macri in 2019, when the then Head of State had no competition within Juntos por the change.

“The President has not confirmed that he wants to be a candidate for re-election, he has publicly said that he is working to create the conditions for the Frente de Todos to be competitive in the next elections,” the new chief of staff remarked this Saturday, in dialogue with Radius 10.

“I think it would be a mistake to try to synthesize someone who does not synthesize naturally because that generates frustration, discomfort and there the best thing would be to carry out a Step,” said the leader from Santa Fe.

Asked if the natural candidate is Cristina Kirchner, Rossi was blunt: “All the polls indicate Cristina’s electoral potential, which is above the rest of the candidates or those who are measured in those polls, this is clearly so.”

Rossi’s statements are given in the context of the official internal. Last Thursday, at a summit of the Frente de Todos, which took place at the PJ headquarters in Buenos Aires, the Cristinistas made it clear that they do not support a possible attempt by Alberto Fernández to run for re-election.

In that meeting, the Cristinistas left a clear message to the President. “We want you to get out of re-election, and if you don’t, we are going to convince Cristina to present herself to win you in La Paso,” they warned him.
