Elderly former US President Jimmy Carter is going home palliative care. “After a series of brief hospital stays, the former US President decided today to spend the remaining time at home with his family,” the non-governmental organization he founded, the Carter Center, said on Twitter. Carter is receiving palliative care instead of additional medical procedures.
The 98 year old Democrat was President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. In 1982, Carter founded his non-governmental organization, the Carter Center, which works, among other things, for peaceful conflict resolution around the world. In 2002 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. He is the oldest living former US President and lives with his wife Rosalynn in Plains, Georgia.
