A mysterious death has occurred in St. Petersburg, home of Russian President Vladimir Putin. First details are known.
St. Petersburg – Another mysterious death has occurred in Russia. After several former military officers and top managers from Vladimir Putin’s environment died unexpectedly, especially in winter, there is now apparently the next example.
Marina Yankina, former head of the Russian Defense Ministry, was found dead in St. Petersburg. The 58-year-old was discovered lifeless on the sidewalk by passers-by. This was shared, among others, by Anton Gerashenko, adviser to the Ukrainian Minister of the Interior Twitter with. “Her death is not the first among senior Russian officials in the past year,” Geraschenko said. The press office of Russia’s Western Military District, where Yanika primarily worked, confirmed her death. The US magazine reports Newsweek.
Mysterious death in Russia: Yankina was apparently politically close to Putin
According to media reports from Great Britain, which refer to Russian information, the 58-year-old fell out of the window. That’s what they report Daily Mail and the Sun. So far, however, there is no evidence for this. Similar circumstances of death have already been spread among the military, oligarchs and managers mentioned at the beginning.
Whether there is a connection between Yankina’s death and Russia’s “special operation” in Ukraine is so far unclear. The Daily Mail reports, however, that the 58-year-old took on central tasks for Putin at the beginning of the invasion and then in several partial mobilizations – in other words: Yankina therefore had insider knowledge.
Yankina’s case is particularly explosive given the fact that Vladimir Makarov, a 72-year-old former major general in the Russian army, was found dead just last week. The state news agency TASS from Russia reported that it was a case of suicide. However, there is no evidence for this either. Makarov was, among other things, deputy head of the main directorate for combating extremism in the Russian Interior Ministry. There he was responsible, among other things, for the persecution of journalists critical of the Kremlin. What is behind his mysterious death is now to be determined by the authorities. (tu)
