The Gotthard tunnel was closed from south to north due to a rockfall. As the cantonal police in Uri announced, the rockfall occurred near Gurtnellen near the Felli Bridge.
There is no personal injury. A vehicle sustained minor property damage following driving over a stone lying on the roadway.
A total of around one cubic meter of stone fell on the road. The largest stones were regarding 10 centimeters in size. The protective net attached to the affected area was unable to catch the stones due to their small size.
According to the Uri cantonal police, the northbound tunnel was closed at 3:06 p.m. on Saturday. As a result, the vehicles were intercepted at the south portal and diverted onto the cantonal road. The vehicles that were already in the tunnel were led out of the tunnel in a northerly direction and diverted onto the cantonal road at the north portal.
The Office for Operation of National Roads then carried out safety measures on the affected rock. At around 6:45 p.m., the northbound tunnel and the blocked section of the motorway were released once more.
