While lawyers were dancing at the traditional Lawyers’ Ball in Vienna’s Hofburg on Saturday evening, spectacular scenes were taking place in front of it on Maria-Theresien-Platz.
Shortly before 9 p.m., the Vienna professional fire brigade was alerted to a fire between the Art and Natural History Museums, a spokesman confirmed at the request of the KURIER.
Quickly under control
In a green strip, a hedge with bushes caught fire. While inside the nearby Hofburg Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer conducted the debutantes in the usual manner across the tank floor at the opening of the ball, the emergency services went regarding their work outside on the ring.
“The fire might be extinguished quickly. It was just a hedge fire,” explains the spokesman for Vienna’s professional fire brigade. The cause of the fire is unclear and is being investigated by the police.
