Panic broke out in a Paris business and shopping district on Saturday following a man committed suicide. A police spokesman said. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that a police operation was underway in the La Défense district.
The spokesman rejected reports that shots had been fired. Police had urged people to avoid the area due to the incident in which a man jumped to his death.
Immediately following the incident, people fled the La Défense area. Paris has been hit by several militant attacks in recent years.
