WingetUI: The solution to install and update all your software on Windows! – Tech2Tech

I have already talked here regarding Winget for Windows, an excellent package manager that will allow you to update or install your applications on Windows. However, it may put off some of you since everything is command line. That’s why today we are going to talk regarding an open source application created by Martí Climent: WingetUI. It is an application that will allow you in a few clicks to update or install many applications with Winget and chocolatey that I had also presented here. This is what we will see together in this article.

Features of WingetUI

WingetUI is very easy to use and has many features:

  • WingetUI allows you to install, update and uninstall packages from Winget, Scoop and Chocolatey. WingetUI will also detect if your manually installed apps can be updated!
  • It can also upgrade and uninstall previously installed packages, as well as uninstall built-in Windows apps.
  • WingetUI has the ability to import and export packages of your choice, so you can easily install them in the future.
  • Installation of old version of an application.
  • WingetUI shows a notification when there are updates available
  • Managing your installed updates and packages from its context menu
  • Ability to queue installations to avoid conflicts.
  • Dark theme available to save you from burning your eyes.
  • WingetUI has the ability to display package information (like its license, SHA256 hash, homepage, etc.) before installation.
  • More than 14000 packages available (if winget, scoop and chocolatey are activated)!

Installation of WingetUI

It is quite simple to install WingetUI, since you can simply download the application via the Github repository or alternatively use Winget to download WingetUI ????

To download it via Winget use the following command:

winget install wingetui

Using WingetUI

On first launch, you will be prompted to enable the package managers you wish to use with WingetUI. It can be Winget, Scoop, Chocolatey, or even all of them at the same time.

WingetUI has three main windows.

Package Discovery: This is where you can search for and download new applications.
Software updates: This is where you can update all or almost all of your applications.
Installed packages: This is where you will find all the applications installed on your machine.

In the main window, you can search for an application, see the version number and start the installation with one click. WingetUI does not lack functionality, since you can install the application in silent mode or keep the interactive version if you want to change the location of the program, for example.

A must have for updates!

It is quite difficult to maintain software updates on Windows and yet it is essential if you want to have the maximum functionality, but also to have the latest security updates. In the update tab, WingetUI will scan your computer to list outdated applications. Again here it will be very simple to update an application. You have the version number of the application installed on your computer as well as the latest version available.

You can update all of your apps with one click and if you want to keep a specific version of an app, you can also add it to a list so that those apps don’t get updated.

It is possible to update a specific application or all applications.

Delete an application with WingetUI

WingetUI allows you to install, update, but also delete one or more applications. To do this, from the ” Installed Packages“, you can search through your already installed apps and then select one or more apps to uninstall them.

You will find in the “Source” column, the package manager that was used or if it comes from a local installation or from the Microsoft Store. It does not change the way to uninstall the application.

To conclude, WingetUI is an excellent overlay that will allow you to quickly install or update your applications on Windows. Updates are regular and being able to search for packages via 3 package managers is a strength.
