Saudi Arabia frees Palestinian father and son jailed for alleged links to Hamas
Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has released two Palestinian citizens who were imprisoned for their alleged links with Hamas in Palestine.
Last Wednesday Sulaiman Haddad and his son Yahia Haddad were released from prison by the Saudi authorities and sent to Turkey.
Man News Agency and Middle East Eye have reported the news.
In 2019, Saudi Arabia arrested approximately 69 Palestinian and Jordanian nationals, including Suleiman Haddad and Yahya Haddad, for alleged links to various terrorist organizations.
In 2020, Saudi Arabia sentenced foreign nationals arrested for links to terrorist organizations to mass trials and sentenced them to prison terms ranging from six months to 22 years, depending on the severity of the alleged crimes.
Hamas officials also came forward to thank Saudi Arabia for releasing Yahia and Suleiman.
Issat al-Rash, who handles Hamas’s political affairs, thanked the Saudi authorities on Twitter for releasing the Palestinians. And Izzat-al-Rashk described this Saudi decision as a step towards the right path.
“We welcome this decision. May other Palestinians be released soon,’ Issat tweeted.
Earlier, Human Rights Watch reported that many foreigners, including Palestinians and Israelis, have been detained by Saudi Arabia for allegedly working for various terrorist groups that cannot be precisely identified.
