Yan Chai Hospital’s “Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci” group exploded, and another 88-year-old man was recruited

Tsuen Wan Yan Chai Hospital had an outbreak of vancomycin-resistant enterococci in the orthopedic ward last week, in which 8 patients were recruited. The hospital announced today (17th) that following a contact tracing investigation, an 88-year-old male patient in the ward was found to be infected.

The patient is being treated in isolation

A spokesman for the hospital said that the patient has no symptoms of infection and is currently in stable condition and is being treated in isolation. Various infection control measures have been stepped up in the relevant wards, including enhanced hand hygiene and strict implementation of contact transmission precautions. At the same time, we will also pay more attention to the handling procedures of high infection risks, as well as the disinfection and cleaning of relevant wards.

The spokesman also pointed out that the hospital will continue to strengthen the implementation of infection control measures and closely monitor the situation in the wards concerned. The case has also been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health for follow-up.
