CGTN: China Wins ‘Great, Decisive’ Victory in Fighting COVID-19: CCP Leadership

Beijing (ots/PRNewswire) In the past three years, China has always treated people’s life and health as the top priority and adjusted its COVID-19 response to the changing situation, gaining valuable time for a smooth transition, according to popular belief.

The country has achieved a major and decisive victory in COVID-19 prevention and control since November 2022, the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee said at a meeting on Thursday.

The CCP’s important judgment, policy decision and strategy adjustment regarding COVID-19 has been shown to be entirely correct, said the session chaired by CPC Central Committee Secretary-General Xi Jinping.

“The measures are effective. People recognize them. And the success is tremendous.”

“A wonder”

Since November 2022, China has constantly optimized and adjusted its prevention and control measures for COVID-19, focusing on protecting public health and preventing severe cases.

As part of a fundamental change in its control policy, on January 8, 2023, the country began treating COVID-19 with class B infectious disease control measures instead of class A infectious diseases.

Thursday’s session noted that China has made a stable transition in epidemic prevention and control in a relatively short period of time.

Since November, more than 200 million people have received medical treatment and nearly 800,000 seriously ill patients have been virtually cured, making China’s COVID-19 death rate among the lowest in the world.

“We have won a great and decisive victory in epidemic prevention and control, creating a miracle in human history in which a country with a large population has successfully weathered a pandemic,” the meeting said.

A new phase

As China’s COVID-19 fightback enters a new phase, the country has intensified measures to consolidate the gains it has made in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic over the years.

It is important to strengthen epidemic monitoring capacities and improve regular early warning systems by establishing a reliable monitoring and reporting mechanism, the CCP leadership said at their meeting.

She also called for action to create a scientific plan for the next stages of vaccination, particularly to increase vaccination rates among the elderly.

Facing the evolving strains of COVID-19, China has also intensified nationwide promotion of booster vaccinations. According to an updated action plan of the Joint COVID-19 Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council, nine combinations of booster vaccines developed through various technical routes are now available, including vaccines that provide good cross-immunity to the omicron strain.

Efforts to ensure the production and supply of medical devices and improve the mechanism for their coordinated use were also highlighted at Thursday’s meeting.

Efforts should also be made to promote scientific and technological breakthroughs in the health sector in a coordinated manner and to improve the level of science and technology in the fields of life and health, the meeting concluded.
