Hijab protest video; Iran’s foreign minister cancels visit to India

New Delhi – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollah’s visit to India has been cancelled. The Foreign Minister of Iran was to come to India to participate in the Raisina Dialogue to be held next month in collaboration with the Observer Research Foundation and the Ministry of External Affairs. It is reported that the reason for the cancellation of the visit was that the video prepared as part of the campaign of the program included the scene of Iranian women cutting their hair.

Raisina Dialogue’s campaign video features women cutting their hair and an image of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi. The video was released a month ago to promote this year’s Raisina Dialogue.

The Iranian embassy has informed the Observer Research Foundation and the Indian Ministry of External Affairs that it opposes the president’s photo being placed with the protesters. National media reports that the embassy requested to remove that part from the video, but it was not implemented.

After the death of a twenty-two-year-old woman named Mahsa Amini, who was arrested on September 16 by Iran’s ‘religious police’ for violating the mandatory hijab law, there was a huge protest. Women protested by publicly burning their hijabs and cutting their hair. Religious affairs police vehicles were also set on fire. The main demand was to end restrictions on women and ban religious police. The police might not quell the agitation despite using an iron fist. About three hundred people were killed in the conflict in two months. The international community also came once morest Iran. Iran’s national team also protested once morest the regime by not singing the national anthem at the Qatar World Cup.
