O Plex, a media manager application, is widely recognized for its features — which are continually expanding. This time, for example, the service has just won the Credit Detection (Credits Detection), a feature that allows you to skip the credit sequences of series and movies.
As announced on the service’s blog, the feature will display a “Skip Credits” button on several players different — be it tvOS, iOS, macOS, Windows, Xbox, Roku, and more.
Plex users should certainly know that the service already has the ability to skip intros in series — and the new feature works in a similar way. The developers explained that the new technology is sophisticated, but warns that it may not always work properly.
We worked hard to tweak a machine learning algorithm to understand various inputs (text detection, presence of black frames, and a few other secret ingredients) to create a reliable set of markers when the credits start and end. It’s a tricky issue and there may still be some instances where it doesn’t go exactly as planned, but those instances should be few and far between at this point.
The feature works automatically for all free-to-watch content, and is enabled by default for all library items stored on Plex Pass users’ personal Plex Media Servers — running version 1.31.0 or newer.
In case someone doesn’t want to use the feature or sees a lot of inconsistencies at that first moment, Plex provides the option to completely disable the feature, so that the button will not appear during content playback.
