Kochi: Kerala Technical University (KTU) Vice-Chancellor’s appointment to the Governor has been hit back by the High Court. The division bench clarified that the government should nominate a new VC. The High Court set aside the single bench order to form a search committee to appoint a permanent VC. The High Court clarified that the appointment of Sisa Thomas was not canceled as he was appointed on a temporary basis under special circumstances.

The government’s demand was to cancel the appointment of Sisa Thomas. The single bench rejected this demand and appealed to the division bench. However, the High Court Division Bench clarified that the appointment of Sisa Thomas is not cancelled.

“The appointment is not canceled as it is a decision taken by the Governor under special circumstances. Meanwhile, under the KTU Act, it is the government to provide the names for the appointment of interim VC. But the appointment of Sisa Thomas has been done outside the names given by the government. The list for appointment of new interim VC may be forwarded to the government. The list of eligible candidates as per UGC criteria should be forwarded to the Chancellor. After receiving the list, the chancellor can take the appropriate decision’ – said the division bench.
