Recently there was a scenario of energy crisis in European countries and global climate urgency. Soon, the concern with the best use and economy of energy inputs gained prominence as one of the most commented subjects, bringing the concept of energy efficiency as its main agenda.
In a nutshell, energy efficiency is nothing more than the ability to do the same, or even more, with a smaller amount of energy resources. And despite the great importance and benefits, many managers of Brazilian companies do not know or apply energy efficiency actions in their operations. In 2017 ABESCO (Brazilian Association of Energy Conservation Services Companies) published a document indicating that in 2016 companies failed to save around BRL 20 billion.
Performing energy management properly is not an easy task when this activity is done manually and without much structure. From a simple “look” at the energy bill to checking expenses, or even carrying out energy efficiency studies in electro-intensive sectors. Although energy management is considered an arduous task, it is very important to pay attention to the topic, since energy is normally one of the most important inputs for the company, and when poorly managed it can generate large unnecessary expenses at the end of the month.
Thinking regarding spreading the concept and importance of energy efficiency to the national market, CUBi Energia, a Brazilian startup that offers energy management solutions through a web tool that uses data and IOT (Internet of Things) to find opportunities for efficiency, developed the CUBi Awards, an award that focuses on sharing real cases that detail the processes and results achieved by Brazilian companies when implementing an energy management platform.
“Here at CUBi, we encounter managers of large companies on a daily basis who do not understand the real importance of energy management and the application of energy efficiency actions in their processes. This is a current reality of the Brazilian market. After implementation, it’s lovely to see the same managers amazed at the savings and efficiency potential achieved. We want to take this information to the entire national market. That’s why we created the CUBi Awards.” Rafael Turella, Commercial Head of CUBi Energia.
The first edition of the CUBi Awards took place in 2021, where the startup disclosed energy efficiency cases from large Brazilian companies, such as Camargo Corrêa InfraM.Dias BrancoItograss and Revanche. This year, at the CUBi Awards 2022, the award had 4 categories (industry, agribusiness, agroindustry and civil construction) to reward its own customers and 1 external category (boost). as an initiative to recognize energy efficiency projects from other companies present in the market.
Winners of each category:
- AGROINDUSTRY: Itaipu Mill. For identifying potential savings of more than BRL 1 million per year.
- AGRIBUSINESS: Citrojuice. For saving up to 41% of the cost with reactive energy using an energy monitoring tool and executing energy management and governance processes.
- INDUSTRY: Frivatti. For identifying 12% waste in your annual cost of electricity.
- CONSTRUCTION: Cyrel. For implementing one of the best energy efficiency systems on construction sites and points of sale.
- BOOST: Estech Engineering. For developing the best Energy Efficiency project focused on refrigeration.
