After all, what is two more months of delay for a product that we have been waiting for years? This is what is likely to happen for Apple’s mixed reality headset, according to a news report indiscretion by Mark Gurman. The famous device was to be presented around April, but finally the manufacturer might unveil it in June, during the WWDC which promises to be very busy.
The decision to postpone this presentation would have been taken a few days ago, following tests showed the need to tighten a few bolts both at the software and hardware level (which is surprising so close to a launch). Dan Riccio, the former boss of hardware in charge of the project since 2021would be very involved in the final finishing touches of the project.
The snoop of Bloomberg explains that the unveiling of the device should have taken place during the WWDC 2022, then in January of this year, then in April therefore. Apple would like to launch the helmet in 2023, no but Really.
Apple reportedly delays plans for augmented reality glasses
Gurman also relays internal concerns: engineers would question the relevance for Apple of launching into this still very young market without offering a device capable of really changing the situation. Rumors, and the current state of technology, do indeed point to something like Meta’s Quest Pro. But twice as expensive, since Apple’s model might cost around $3,000…
Others, however, believe that this first version opens the way to future successes, like the Apple Watch. A less expensive version would already be in the boxes.
Apple would rely on “realistic” FaceTime calls and content to sell its mixed reality headset
