Ukraine’s military announced the destruction of a rare Russian electronic warfare complex Palantin.
In a video posted on February 14, soldiers of the country’s 128th Mountain Infantry Brigade destroyed a rare Russian Palantin electronic warfare complex. This is the first time this electronic warfare complex has been destroyed since the conflict between Moscow and Kiev broke out.
Palantin is a new generation electronic warfare complex of the Russian army when it has only been put into service since 2019. Integrated with many modern technologies, this combat complex can detect and jam communication systems within a range of up to 1000km.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, this electronic warfare system can detect enemy communication signals on many separate frequencies and then carry out suppression to interrupt these signals. In addition, Palantin can also be used to gather intelligence.
A special feature of the Palantin electronic warfare complex is that it can be used to deal with enemy fighters, cruise missiles and drones by suppressing the navigation system. and guidance of these weapons.
According to the 128th Mountain Infantry Brigade, the Russian Palantin complex was destroyed by the US-aided M982 Excalibur smart artillery shell.
The M982 Excalibur is one of the very high-precision guided weapons that the US provides to Ukraine. Equipped with a GPS global positioning system, the error of attacks from Excalibur shells is very small and through which this weapon can effectively attack many enemy targets.
In a statement in mid-January, an officer with the separatist militia in eastern Ukraine called the Excalibur shell “the most dangerous weapon” aided by Washington to Kiev. Previously, the US also sent Ukraine howitzer M777A2 mounted GPS global positioning device and automatic fire control module TAD-PIK to use with M982 Excalibur shells.
Recently, the Ukrainian military regularly uses M982 Excalibur shells to attack and destroy rare Russian weapons. At the beginning of February, Kiev destroyed two Russian Tor-M2DT anti-aircraft missile complexes with the nickname “Arctic Beast” with precision strikes from US-aided smart artillery shells.
