In Chad, 454 members of Fact are prosecuted in particular for assassination of the Head of State, terrorism, enlistment of minors and attack on the security of the State. After its opening on Monday, the trial had been adjourned to Wednesday February 15at the request of the lawyers of the members of the politico-military group who only became aware of the files of their clients this weekend.
According to one of the rebels’ lawyers, Master Francis Lokouldé, the trial therefore resumed normally on Wednesday morning in the large courtroom of the Klessoum remand center. But the session only lasted an hour, because following the appearance of two defendants, a tear gas canister exploded in the room.
The fault would lie with a member of the nomadic guard, this military unit which has recently been responsible for ensuring the safety of the magistrates. The guard in question was said to have been reckless with his equipment. It would therefore be a simple accident. The president of the Ndjamena Court of Appeal was forced to suspend the hearing. The date of its resumption has not yet been set.
